FROM SHED LIFE TO SPOTLIGHTS
THE 10TH EDITION OF THE BIKE SHED EVENT

We go way back with The Bike Shed Motorcycle Club. And having attended the majority of the Bike Shed Events, we decided to take a break and contemplate while celebrating their 10th Edition. We’ll take you on a short trip down memory lane while our pictures tell you the story of the spectacle.

LONDON CALLING

Our collaboration with The Bike Shed dates back to 2014, although our appreciation dates back even further. Having seen what the guys and gals were doing both online and with their events in the Shoreditch Studios, things got personal when we applied for a spot on their first Tobacco Dock show close to London’s tower bridge.

“Hello, Dutch speaking... Yeah, I know REV’IT!, I’ve got one of your jackets. You want to exhibit at the show? But why? Hmm… Okay, send me a picture of your stand and we’ll think about it.” It wasn’t easy to get into the well-curated environment of The Bike Shed Event, but we managed to convince them.

DISCUSSING THE DREAM

We left that very first Bike Shed event at the Tobacco Dock last due to a bit of queuing amongst bike builders’ trucks. But once all was packed after a successful first show, I had the chance to sit down with Bike Shed founder Anthony “Dutch” van Sommeren, a chat that would ignite a friendship based on a passion for motorcycles - of all sorts - and a mutual idea of where the then-considered custom scene would go to.

Only three shows in, Dutch unveiled his dream of opening a permanent venue to those attracted to the inclusive character and endless creativity that the custom motorcycle scene has to offer to existing motorcyclists and motorcyclists to be.

For those wondering whether or not this dream came true, we encourage you to head down to 384 Old Street whenever you are in London. Not entirely coincidental, it’s in this beautiful four-arch wide building where you will enjoy the finest food, best build motorcycles, and of course all items from our REV’IT! Urban collection.

At the opening night of the London based venue, it was Dutch who revealed another one of his dreams, this time involving Los Angeles as the canvas for his ideas… Anyway, back to the event.

GO BIG OR GO HOME

Fast forward back to 2019, where we celebrated motorcycles during the 10th edition of the Bike Shed event. Feeling slightly naked not having a stand in the beautiful Tobacco Dock, it was however, a refreshing experience to be able to walk around the premises - not naked, of course - without a voice in the back of my mind telling me I have to go back to our stand as there might be people waiting.

Having been among the frontrunners to see where this scene - or by now, even segment - was going, taking one step back was a great way to take the temperature of where we are today, which will undoubtably fuel the future. With both The Bike Shed shop and London-based retailer Urban Rider able to inform visitors about our products - including the customized BSMC version of our Worker Overshirt - we had the event to ourselves to indulge. Those of you wondering whether we stepped out of Bike Shed’s incredible events needn’t worry; you will find us at their inaugural Bike Shed Festival this October (stay tuned for that one!).

About this page

SO WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

The Bike Shed Motorcycle Club is the result of an urge - or “itch” - among motorcyclists to unite in a way where horsepower, lap times, or the distance traveled around the globe aren’t the main topics. With appreciation toward all disciplines within the motorcycle industry - as can be seen by the packed arch every time MotoGP is on, or the turn-up when former Dakar riders make their appearance - The Bike Shed is most famous for giving builders of all sorts a spot to appreciate each other’s work in such an inclusive way.

Not only did they quickly draw a crowd with their events, their permanent venue is also a valuable hub for those who love motorcycles and those who didn’t know they loved motorcycles before.

BECOME PART OF THE AUDIENCE

With five British editions and two French ones behind our belt, we have a bit of experience that allows us to say that The Bike Shed events are a must for custom motorcycle lovers. Those of you who have been will acknowledge this, but those of you who haven’t, make sure to put it on your bucket list after seeing the pictures from 2019.

And where normally you’d be waiting for May 2020 for their next event, we encourage you to come visit us between October 4-6 at The Bike Shed Festival. See you there!
