About the
MotorLand Aragón

Answering to the popularity of racing in the area of Alcañiz - which has a history of hosting road races on street circuit - MotorLand Aragón was developed. Not only did the track with its “reverse corkscrew” chicane and scenic rocky backdrop receive praise from the riders, the track was also the first circuit in history to receive the IRTA “Best Grand Prix of the Year Award.”

At just over 5 kilometers long, the 17-turn track has a recorded top speed of over 345 kph, offering a mix of fast sections and technical turns; challenging the best riders in the world this weekend.

Having tested at Misano prior to the GP, Danilo Petrucci was aware that the San Marino GP was not going to go down easily despite putting in a lap fast enough for second spot during testing. The hardest thing for a racer is to accept defeat - especially after winning the Mugello GP earlier this year - but wisdom got the better of Danilo, who accepted a spot just inside the top 10 which, in the end, landed him back in P3 in the championship standings.

About this page

“For sure it was a very hard race for me. On Saturday, qualifying was very difficult - ending in P17 - and so during the race, I had a lot of positions to make up. I really did my maximum, but unfortunately the lack of grip didn’t allow me to be very quick.

In the end, I managed to finish in tenth place, and the only positive aspect of the weekend is that I’m back in third place in the overall standings ahead of Rins.”

Augusto definitely found his mojo in the Moto2 class, which he proved by claiming his third victory of the season at the Misano track in an impressive way. In his by now signature methodical way, he managed to execute his strategy perfectly, taking the win in a last lap charge to the finish line. Classmate, Bo Bendsneyder, managed to turn around his tough start of the weekend by battling hard during the race which ended near the points for him.

“I am very happy with another victory, my second consecutive one, and one that is very important for the championship. With Alex [Marquez] in the lead of the championship, we continue to gain points on him in the race for the World Championship.

The race has been tough however, Di Giannantonio pushed very hard and when I saw that I could go with him, I made a plan to finally overtake him. Very happy for the victory and to continue in Aragon… Gaasss!”

“Of course I am not satisfied with the final result, but it was not a bad race. Certainly the final part was strong. I made two mistakes, one in the beginning and one in the middle, when I wanted to overtake another rider and ran wide. Fortunately, I was able to make up for that, but to be able to go for points in this competitive field, you cannot afford mistakes like that.

What has become clear this weekend is that in the second free practice I have to take bigger steps to be in a better position for the rest of the weekend. That has proved to be the crucial point here. I also learned from my teammate for the weekend, Simone Corsi. He has a very different riding style than me, but we can use information from there to see what I can do differently and better.”

There were quite a few heart in mouth-moments during Moto3 when both Jaume Masià and Lorenzo Dalla Porta were in race-win contention at some point in the race. With both of them unfortunately unable to make it to the podium in the end, Lorenzo did manage to extend his championship lead prior to the Aragon round.

“The result in Misano is a pity... In the race, we were strong and confident, we did a great job with the team during the whole weekend, but we lost the front in a couple of corners while I was fighting for the first position.

After this, my only thoughts were to push as much as I could and see where I could end. I was aiming for the podium, but looking at the circumstances, I am still happy with 4th position and I am hoping to fight for the victory in MotorLand!”

“I am not super happy with the result, especially after I finished 5th but I got demoted to 8th because of a penalty. However, during the race, we did well and we were again fighting for the top positions.

So, even if the result is not what I was aiming for, we left Misano with a bigger lead in the championship and I am already focusing on the weekend in Aragon!”

With two races in Misano, the MotoE riders got more track time served to them, helping Randy gain confidence with the electric bike in the inaugural season of the class. Pushing for improvements, Randy ended the San Marino weekend with eyes on the top-10.

“Both races were difficult for me. I didn’t get the feeling I was after when riding the bike, and at the moment, it wasn’t not easy to find a solution. In race one, I was behind two other riders for three laps.

I already felt like I was on the limit so I had to slow down in order to finish the race. We tried to improve for race two, but unfortunately, the problem remained. We have some ideas so the team and I will try to find a way to improve before Valencia.”
