Loved more for his character rather than his athletic prowess at first, Danilo Petrucci became somewhat of a cult hero by proving he is still that loveable guy, but an incredible, multi-faceted athlete, too.

In a rarely seen career path, Danilo Petrucci barged his way through the Superstock 1000 classes, first in Italy and then in WorldSBK, to move directly to MotoGP. Even rarer, the amicable Italian went on to win not one but two Grands Prix – his first being extra special; winning his home GP in Mugello aboard the factory Ducati, a dream come true.

Not your average rider by any means, Petrucci’s character is as much defined by his honesty and loveable demeanor as his – in racing circles – fairly large frame. Beating the odds and the competition, the man from Terni, Italy won over the critics over time. If it wasn’t with his impressive transformation to become a double GP winner, then surely when he took the sudden plunge to race the Dakar Rally and fulfilled a lifelong dream to race in the United States of America – racking up wins on both occasions.

Now set for a return to the team he fought for the 2011 Superstock 1000 title with, racing in the Superbike World Championship on a Ducati, to add an impressive fourth different championship – with three different manufacturers – in just two over years. They don’t call Petrucci the Handyman for nothing.
