And before them, it was Randy de Puniet who wore and co-developed the first generation of Jerez Gloves. Season after season, they have provided us with invaluable feedback enabling us to continually improve upon an already amazing high-performance glove. We now proudly present the third generation, aptly named the Jerez 3 Gloves. These are the gloves you will see in every top-level racing class next year; protecting and providing an unparalleled feel to the hands of racers participation at the highest level of competition.

insideout

You probably didn’t know this, but the Jerez Gloves are amongst the most technical and complicated items you’ll find in the REV’IT! collection. They are the result of years and years of continual development and are composed of more than 50 individual pieces. During the manufacturing process, which only a handful of skilled manufacturers are able to do, the Jerez 3 Gloves are made from the inside out. Consider the amount of protective hard parts you find in the glove, and you’ll no doubt wonder how they ever get it back in shape. These gloves are truly a great example of the highest degree of craftmanship.

About this page

safety first

For most of us, our hands are probably the most precious tools of our body. If you have ever endured a serious hand injury, you will know that not being able to use your hands the way you normally do is incredibly frustrating. Imagine this if you’re racing for a living. So, safety comes first and there is no glove like the Jerez 3 Glove that offers the number of protective features to prevent you from breaking the vulnerable bones in your hands or in your wrists. The Jerez 3 Gloves are a result of our Engineered skin® design philosophy, where we reallocate stitching seams at impact areas to areas that are less vulnerable and integrate protective features into the design.

During a crash, it is likely that the palm, little finger and the knuckle hit the tarmac first. At high speeds, the angular impact does not cause so much of a burst of energy that is transmitted to the hand. The trick here is to allow the gloved hand to continue sliding as long as possible. Less resistance means less energy build up and a gradual release of friction energy.

To add extra protection for the vulnerable knuckle, finger bones and wrist bone should the impact be less angular, we’ve applied impact energy-dispersing temper foam and SEESOFT™ material, which you will also find in our back protectors.

TPU A.K.A. THERMOPLASTIC URETHANE
When it comes to protection, you’ll find that many REV’IT! products refer to something called TPU or Thermo-Plastic-Urethane. We’ll just use the abbreviation for convenience purposes! TPU is an extremely durable synthetic material. The dual-comp protector at the knuckles and the back of the hand, as well as the cuff consists of a pre-shaped, 3D honeycomb structure that is topped off by an aluminum high-impact shield. Compared to carbon - a material that is widely used - aluminum will not shred to pieces upon severe impact. Aluminum also slides better with the positive side-effect of less heat built up as a result of friction.

LEATHER HEAVEN

The Jerez 3 Gloves are constructed of the best of the best in terms of materials, and the selection of applied leathers is a good example. For optimum feel, we have used kangaroo leather at the inside of the hand in combination with Pittards WR100X goat skin for the ultimate grip. Pittards WR100X goat skin does not absorb moisture and provides an unequalled grip on the throttle when you put pressure on, without the feeling of stickiness.

Furthermore, the back of the hand is made entirely of A-grade cowhide. All these leather panels and protective parts are stitched together using PWR|yarn, a special high resistance yarn that outperforms traditional Kevlar yarns.

NO DISTRACTION ABOUT NOTHING

During an interview a few years ago with Alvaro Bautista, we asked him what the most important feature of his suit was. He told us, “No distraction about nothing.” This is what it’s all about, so we put this quote on the wall of our design department.

About this page

A pro rider like Bautista, competing in MotoGP, doesn’t really care what his gear looks like (within reason), as long as it protects him. More importantly, when on the bike, his main jobs are to stay focused and race. Focus on the bike and on the track. Whatever he wears, he doesn’t want to be thinking about how it fits and if it will protect him. It should be like a second skin that he doesn’t have to worry about or pay attention to. No distraction. About nothing.

As a result of this simple slogan, this is how we look at every sports-oriented item we develop in house. This is how we also ended up with the concept of the “harmonica construction” of the dual comp knuckle protector we’ve integrated at the back of the hand. At first glance, you won’t see that the knuckle actually consists of various parts, but it does. These individual parts can move freely towards and away from each other, providing even greater freedom of movement, without compromising safety or protection.

The Jerez 3 Gloves come at a price. Though, you certainly get what you pay for and you won’t find a better glove out there. However, there is a more affordable spin-off that will also suit the needs of experienced track day enthusiasts. With the Jerez, we didn’t look at budget and only used the best of the best. With the Spitfire Gloves, we offer MotoGP derived technology to a larger audience. The Jerez 3 Gloves are a direct translation of the information we receive from the top motorcycle riders in the world. We use this to create and execute the safest and best gloves you can get your hands on. Literally.
