Laguna Seca is an entirely different track compared to the others of the WSBK Championship, and I'm looking forward to racing there as I have a great memory of when I was racing with the MotoGP.

About this page

What challenges are you facing now that the season is nearing the halfway point, and how do they differ from when you began the year?

AB: My goal is to continue working as we have done in the first part of the season but also trying to keep improving both myself and the bike. We are still developing it as it's utterly new since last year. There is always room for improvement, and we need to work on this.

At the beginning of the season, I was focused on learning the format of the WSBK Championship and how to approach the weekend with the three races, and now it's to improve, step by step.

Looking back at the start of the season, do you feel the transition into WSBK went smoothly? What are you still adjusting to?

The transition has been gradual. I think the first tests were essential for me, to understand how the bike worked, but also the tires, the suspensions, and the engine.

Actually, it has not been so difficult to adapt to the bike for my riding style, and I am happy because we didn't need so much time to do it.

"This year, I am delighted with the team and with the bike, and I am winning races, so I don't miss MotoGP." ~ Álvaro Bautista

About this page

What, if anything at all, do you miss about MotoGP?

Actually, I don't miss the MotoGP that much, because I was on a satellite team for the most recent years, and it was tough to fight for the top positions. This year, I am delighted with the team and with the bike, and I am winning races, so I don't miss MotoGP.

How has your reception been among other WSBK riders?

Riders are 'happy' about my arrival to the WSBK Championship. We are increasing the level of the championship, we are faster, and there are more competitors. Maybe not all the riders, but in general, they are happy.

About this page

Aside from the Spanish rounds, which cities on the 2019 WSBK calendar are your favorites? How does Laguna Seca rank in your mind against the rest of the season?

There are many beautiful tracks, but I think that apart from the Spanish ones, the Italian races are special, as the supporters are crazy for motorcycles. However, I think I can consider Laguna Seca within the top 3 because everything is different and the atmosphere there is unique.

What particular track features are you looking forward to, or dreading, at Laguna Seca?

Laguna Seca is an entirely different track compared to the others of the WSBK Championship, and I'm looking forward to racing there as I have a great memory of when I was racing with the MotoGP. It's a challenging track, but once you find the right feeling, it's also a lot of fun.

About this page

You have been riding for REV'IT! for years now. How would you say your suits have affected your performance over your career thus far?

REV'IT! and I have been working together for many years, and this is a good point as this means there is a strong relationship of trust between us. I have tried to convey my feeling with the leather since the beginning, and they have always listened to me trying to develop, and we have both grown up - me as a rider, and they in terms of materials achieving a very high level.

The REV'IT! Jerez 3 gloves were famously developed directly from your feedback in MotoGP. What features are your favorite?

Jerez 3 gloves are of exceptional quality and adapt very well to the rider. They are very comfortable when you ride, and it almost seems that you’re not wearing gloves at all. Protection is excellent - and also Jerez is a lovely name for gloves! I am happy because I can remember that we started developing them in 2010, and I believe they are at the top as far as protection and design.

And one just for fun - who is your favorite American pop icon?

Well, it's challenging to choose one as there are many...I don't know, maybe Jason Derulo!
