The What

At its inception, Overland Expo was a small group of nomads, wanderlusters and perpetual travelers who gathered to swap and compare travel stories, tips and gear. But the event has since swelled to encompass a crowd of more than 7,000 explorers from every corner of the earth.

While the numbers have grown, the crowd’s intention is the same as the original founding crew: They come for the stories, the tips and the gear, but also to witness one of the world’s wildest gathering of enthusiasts for whom adventure knows no bounds.

About this page

Within Overland Expo West is a sizable motorcycle village, one that caters to the roaming dual sport rider looking to hone his or her off-road riding skills, to outfit a bike for a long-haul adventure or just to catch a bit of inspiration from the other travelers passing through.

REV’IT! has been a sponsor of the Overland Expo since 2014, and in 2018 is represented by GO AZ Motorcycles in the motorcycle village. Look for the black and white REV’IT! flags and stop by for the latest from our adventure collection!

About this page

First-time moto visitors will have a full line-up of activities to choose from at the expo: Riders can participate in guided demo rides from BMW (provided by RawHyde Adventures), KTM and Ural, or sit for one of hundreds of instructional classes covering everything from winching to tire changing to survival food preparation. For those with a more competitive spirit, a slow race on Saturday rewards the steady handed, while a skills challenge on Sunday mixes things up a bit on the expo’s dirt track.

One of the biggest moto-draws of the event is the chance for riders to hone their dirt skills on a closed track built specifically to replicate real-world challenges, obstacles and scenarios. Nicknamed the “Silk Road”, the custom course is overseen by the Dragoo Adventure Riding Team and promises to improve any riders’ skills, from the humblest beginner to the most experienced adventurist.

The who

Overland Expo West is for anyone looking for an eyes-wide-open adventure weekend. There are monster overlanding rigs outfitted with unimaginable farkles and custom parts; there are hands-on demos to rescue tipped 4x4s; there is a marketplace offering everything from $ 5 dehydrated meals to $ 10,000 navigation systems; and there are adventurers at every extreme of the spectrum, from the most tech-savvy gadget gurus to self-proclaimed “hippie vagabonds” and everything in between.

Some of the most famous moto-adventurers in the world make the annual pilgrimage to the expo to share their stories with aspiring travelers: In the past, the expo has hosted Ted Simon, Sam Manicom, Tiffany Coates, Simon and Lisa Thomas, and other nomadic legends. In 2018, REV’IT! Women’s Team rider Erika Bean will be making the rounds at Overland Expo West. If you see her, say hello and ask her about her adventures on her bumblebee-yellow BMW GS650 named Betty!

Overland Expo - The Where

About this page

the where

The Overland Expo West is hosted just several miles south of Flagstaff, Arizona, on the piney grounds of Fort Tuthill County Park. Dirt paths winding through lanky trees lend an authentic adventure atmosphere to the event, but rewards abound for those who wander outside expo grounds: Renowned Highway 89A between Flagstaff and its southerly neighbor Sedona is considered to be one of the best motorcycle riding roads in the state.

The evergreens in Flagstaff give way to aspens, maples and oaks as the winding highway - also known as Oak Creek Canyon Drive - descends into the Sedona desert. The multiple hairpin turns and steep ascents/descents along the drive are rewarded with stunning views of the red rock canyons below, and the air warms noticeably in just a short drive, giving way to a dramatic vegetation shift into scrub oak and cacti. For Overland visitors who consider themselves dirt purists, there are amazing off-road options, too: The Arizona Backcountry Discovery Route meanders right through the Flagstaff area, and is easily accessed from Fort Tuthill park.
